We showed up! We spoke up!
My phone call to Rep. Steil.
More than 150 of Representative Bryan Steil’s constituents showed up to their 1st Congressional District Town Hall, and Congressman Steil did not.
"Obviously a man who doesn't have the courage to come to this meeting and listen to his constituents, doesn't have the kind of courage it takes to stand up to Donald Trump and the people behind him," Jean from Oak Creek.
The messages were clear:
Stand up against the Trump regime’s agenda. Grow a spine. Grow a backbone.
Stand up for Due Process one of us can be disappeared, all of us can.
Stop the cuts by DOGE.
Since Steil decided not to be present at his own district’s Town Hall, citizens spoke directly to the camera for him to listen, watch, and stand up for the people he represents. The event was held at the Franklin Public Library on April 24, 2025.
Recently I traveled with a group from Opportunity Wisconsin to talk with Rep. Steil. In just a few minutes I was able to listen to his support for cutting the tax rate for billionaires while "streamlining" Medicaid, share my thoughts and request an in-person town hall meeting in our district.
Not everyone can get to Washington DC so we are organizing our own town hall meeting in the district to offer an opportunity for his constituents speak face-to-face with Rep. Steil.
We have asked Rep. Steil to address four topics, Budget Resolution, Due Process, Tariffs, Veterans’ Health Care during the first 20 minutes. The remainder of the time is reserved for constituent questions and concerns.
This event is intended to deepen our understanding of Rep. Steil's policy positions and to deepen his understanding of the needs of his constituents.
Just a reminder - he works for us and not the other way around.
Hands off!
President Trump’s egregious actions are hurting Americans. My paralyzed husband’s VA spinal cord doctors received a letter from the US Office of Personnel Management in January 2025 offering for them to resign with a buyout plan, saying that if they choose to stay, “we cannot give you full assurance regarding the certainty of your position.” You can read the original “fork in the road” letter here.
Enough is enough!
It’s time we demand our elected Congressional Representatives stand up to Trump. It’s time for “Hands Off” our services and programs!
Fork in the Road
Using the framework of the letter sent to federal employees in January, I have created a letter we can send to our Congressional Representatives! Just copy and paste the text into your email. Let’s start documenting when we see our elected official violating our terms and standards!
It’s time for reform!
April 24, 2025
Dear Representative Bryan Steil,
We the people of the 1st Congressional District are writing to express our disappointment that you did not show up to our Town Hall meeting tonight. As our representative, we expect you to listen to our concerns and respond. You are supposed to find time during recess to meet with constituents. Since you chose not to attend and did not respond to numerous calls and emails requesting your presence, it’s time for reform. This is your fork in the road!
As President Trump has done to the federal workforce, we are issuing a number of directives to our elected officials to create a Congress that responds to the needs of all the people, not just the rich and powerful. The reforms are built around these four pillars:
Return to Office: You will spend more time in the district. We require that you set up weekly town hall meetings with at least one in-person per month in the district to share your policy positions and listen to the concerns of constituents affected by these decisions. Detailed notes of these discussions will be posted online within two days of the meeting and staff will provide follow up to all promises made during the event.
Performance Culture: Congress should be comprised of the highest performing Representatives America has to offer. We insist on a code of ethics that includes treating all constituents with respect. You and/or your staff are expected to respond to a contact from a constituent within one week. Your votes on issues are expected to be based on data from constituents and experts in the field and not influenced by big campaign donors. Legislative staff will take detailed written notes when meeting with constituents.
More streamlined and flexible elected workforce: Under the guise of fraud, abuse and waste you have allowed the termination of many federal employees whose jobs were needed to implement the programs and services already approved by Congress. We demand that you speak up for reinstating ALL of our dedicated federal employees immediately while terminating all employees at the Department of Government Efficiency including Elon Musk at once.
Enhanced standards of conduct: Congress should be composed of elected officials who are reliable, trustworthy, and responsive to their constituents. Therefore we are requiring you immediately start the process to impeach this President for ignoring the rule of law, abusing executive power and for ruining the United States' respected stature in the world.
Accountability
We plan to hold you accountable for living up to our enhanced standards of suitability and conduct as we move forward. If you cannot live up to our expectations as listed above, we are offering you a chance to resign. Should you choose to stay and we find evidence that you are not committed to these standards and that constituents in your district are harmed by policies you vote for and the egregious actions of this Administration, your service to this country will be terminated in November of 2026 and we will elect someone who represents the people and is loyal to democracy.
Whichever path you choose, we thank you for your service to The United States of America.
This is your fork in the road.
Respectfully,
Your constituents
